Welcome from ABATE of California

ABATE of California is a motorcyclists' rights organization dedicated to preserving individual freedom and promoting safety. We fully support rider training, safety and educational programs. Our members also raise funds for the less fortunate, through charity runs and benefits. We encourage our members to become active in their local communities. ABATE works to protect the rights of all motorcyclists through direct involvement in the political process. You, as an individual, can help in the ongoing struggle against anti-motorcycle legislation both here in California and across the United States by becoming an ABATE member.

ABATE is non-partisan and welcomes all riders, on-road and off-road. We give those with a strong interest in motorcycling to unite and become part of one of California's strongest motorcycle rights organizations. ABATE feels that all of us, lifestyle rider to off-road fan are brothers and sisters with a common interest -- riding free.

Vote Like a Biker

It is 2016 and an election year. Part of our job is to be a legislative watchdog for you. ABATE has a full time lobbyist in Sacramento keeping track of legislative bills that affect or are of interest to motorcyclists. Sometimes they are obvious and sometimes they are tucked in the middle of totally unrelated legislation.

This election year we have sent questionaires to all people running for office. It contains a wide range of topics that will help us develop a picture of who an what the priorities are for the candidate. These questions help to determine if a candidate is a friend of the biker life and motorcyclists. ABATE will take all resposes, as well as let you know who did not respond, and create a voters guide to help you know who supports us and who we should support.

We need to support those who are friends and support us. Watch here for our  voters guide.

Lane Splitting in California

In California it is LEGAL for Motorcycles to SHARE LANES, but there are guidelines to follow. Thank you to the California Highway Patrol for posting the guidelines, and a thank you to The Sacramento Bee for publishing the article.

The guidelines note: Inexperienced motorcyclists should not lane split. Law enforcement officers can, at their discretion, determine that a motorcyclist is lane-splitting unsafely.  Other drivers should not try to impede motorcyclists from lane-splitting.

Additonal State guidelines were posted on the CHP website at:  under "CHP Programs", by clicking on the headline "California Motorcyclist Safety".  Or clicking this link to Download Lane Splitting Guidelines in PDF.
In California, the Motorcycle Safety Program is administered by the CMSP which is California's official motorcycle safety and training program. To find a course location near you, or call 1.877.RIDE.411
