Welcome from ABATE of California

ABATE of California is a motorcyclists' rights organization dedicated to preserving individual freedom and promoting safety. We fully support rider training, safety and educational programs. Our members also raise funds for the less fortunate, through charity runs and benefits. We encourage our members to become active in their local communities. ABATE works to protect the rights of all motorcyclists through direct involvement in the political process. You, as an individual, can help in the ongoing struggle against anti-motorcycle legislation both here in California and across the United States by becoming an ABATE member.

ABATE is non-partisan and welcomes all riders, on-road and off-road. We give those with a strong interest in motorcycling to unite and become part of one of California's strongest motorcycle rights organizations. ABATE feels that all of us, lifestyle rider to off-road fan are brothers and sisters with a common interest -- riding free.

Vote Like a Biker

It is 2016 and an election year. Part of our job is to be a legislative watchdog for you. ABATE has a full time lobbyist in Sacramento keeping track of legislative bills that affect or are of interest to motorcyclists. Sometimes they are obvious and sometimes they are tucked in the middle of totally unrelated legislation.

This election year we have sent questionnaires to all people running for office. It contains a wide range of topics that will help us develop a picture of who and what the priorities are for the candidate. These questions help to determine if a candidate is a friend of the biker life and motorcyclists. ABATE will take all responses, as well as let you know who did not respond, and create a voters guide to help you know who supports us and who we should support.

We need to support those who are friends and support us. Watch here for our  voters guide.

Motorcycle Profiling Bill Signed by Governor in Maryland

Last week Maryland became the second state in the nation, after Washington, to pass a Motorcycling Profiling Bill. The Maryland Coalition of Clubs with the collaborative support of ABATE of Maryland passed the bill unopposed. Maryland's success is proof that a unified grassroots movement can work and inspire the rest of the country. Details can be found HERE.

Lane Splitting in California

Splitting lanes in California is LEGAL! If done in a reckless manner you are still open to a wreckless driving ticket. Guidelines for lane splitting used to be on the CHP and DMV websites but were removed due to a single complaint. The new law, in addition to legalizing lane splitting, creates a committee to create guidelines for the practice.

Click this link to Download Lane Splitting Guidelines in PDF. This is provided by the California Motorcycle Safety Program which is California's official motorcycle safety and training program. To find a course location near you, or call 1.877.RIDE.411
